The 1884-O and 1885-O Morgan Dollars are silver coins produced by the United States Mint in New Orleans, indicated by the "O" Mint Mark. The New Orleans Mint produced coins for the U.S. from 1838 to 1861 and from 1879 to 1909. The break in the timeline was due to the New Orleans Mint being taken over by the Confederacy in 1861. The Mint reopened in 1879 after some refurbishing and continued its service, producing mainly silver coins like these two Morgan Dollars from 1884 and 1885.

Morgan Dollars feature the portrait of Lady Liberty on the obverse side and bald eagle with wings clutching arrows and an olive branch on the reverse side. The Morgan Dollar, first minted in 1878, is made of 90% silver and has a diameter of 38.1 millimeters.
