This coin was issued as a response to the Great War (WWI). This series is quite straightforward, having only a few notable die varieties including the 1942/1, 1942/1-D, and the 1945 Micro S. An exciting set to collect, with most dates and mintmarks affordable in BU condition, and nearly all affordable in lower grades. The KEY DATES of the series are the 1916-D, 1921-P, and 1921-D. In addition to the regular issues for commerce, silver Proof coins were also struck from 1936 to 1942, each commanding a high price due to their tiny mintages and the strong demand.
