Liberty Gold Coins: Minted 1849 to 1908
The U.S. Mint first struck the Liberty Gold series in 1838 and continued through 1908 for some of the denominations. Gold coins were minted in denominations of $1.00, $2.50, $3.00, $5.00, $10.00 and $20.00.
Indian Gold Coins: Minted 1928 to 1932
The Indian Gold series was struck in denominations of $2.50, $5.00, $10.00 and $20.00 starting in 1907, with there being some overlap between the two series. For many years the $20 Saint Gaudens has been one of the most popular coins for collectors, weighing in at almost one ounce of net pure gold (.9675 oz.). This series continued until 1932, when U.S. gold coin production was terminated, and the U.S. government recalled and melted the large majority of American gold coins.
