Designed by Christian Gobrecht, this coin bears the Seated Liberty motif on the obverse, depicting Liberty seated on a rock with a Liberty cap on a pole in her left hand and a shield in her right hand. The reverse of the coin is particularly noteworthy for the addition of arrows and rays. These features were only included on coins minted in 1853, making them highly collectible and sought after by numismatists.
