These 90% Silver 1937 and 1940 Mercury Dimes are two great examples of the Mercury Dime series, also referred to as the Winged Liberty Dimes. The obverse depicts Liberty in a winged cap, often mistaken to be the male god Mercury. The reverse features a bundle of rods with a Roman battle ax known as "Fasces." These two dimes have full bands (“FB”) which means that they were well struck, the bands that tie the bundle of rods are prominent! As the dimes get struck throughout the year, the bands become worn and less distinct.
